Question for horse general public.TWH Head-set?
I am fairly new TWH breed.and a few years back I purchased a registered spotted saddle horse, I broke her myself 2yrs ago, she rides resembling a dream! and has perfect manners. But i have be on trail rides and seen other walkers and they ride with at hand head up so high and proud and REALY pick there organizer up HIGH! "mine dont" she rides with her head "literally" 2 ft of the Ground "all the time"
My interrogate is...Was I supposed to train her for the Head-set I like? and what can i do about it? I want her to look proud and spunky...not a 6yr old deadbeat! lol!!...The funny article is, when she is out in the pasture, she carries her head the instrument I like it.
IDK...maybe she is just comfortable next to her head like that...
thanks
No. Though it is a style to have TWH's hold high-ranking heads techiniclly people may not knw owhat gait there hose is doign and a big head in a TWH means a hollow wager on and probably a smooth pace( you want a running walk) A smooth pace causes hyper-extension of the legs and joints cause back problems and leg problems. agood head seat is rounded at the pole and even near the shoulders
also. TO get a head set you hold with one rein and impart and take presure repeatedly with the other. your hands shuld also be at your waist below the horn of the saddle.
Good Head set:( this horse have a amazing natural set!)

maybe he dosent like trail rids
Answers: I'm not certain if I understand you correctly so forgive me if I answer incorrectly. What I'm audible range is that you have a horse that is relaxed on the trail so she just moseys along beside her head in a low, relaxed position. Knowing the breed and related breeds, you have a low animation horse who is happy just putsing down the trail half asleep. There are plenty of riders who would snuff to have that problem.
You can train her to bring her head up but part of that includes bringing up her vivacity level. I would think long and hard in the region of you, your horse and the kind of trail ride you want to have before messing near it too much.
She sounds like she's going to sleep while she's walking so if you are trying to "fix" the problem, you could give her some things to do while you are traveling such as working on your collection or perfect her gaits. You could even try teaching her different gaits.
As a TWH, she can do most of the assured gaits but should most naturally do a flat walk and a running totter (mostly a difference in speed). Once you have that gait set, just bump up her head (and the root of her neck) and she should fall into a nice, fun saddle rack. Lower the head, drop the root of her nouns and collect her just a little less than a trot and you might achieve a fox trot. Be careful of the pace, though. A stepping pace is not too impossible but hard on her and a true pace is no fun. Her confirmation and her energy horizontal will have a lot to do with what she will proffer. The great thing about the easy gaited horses, particularly TWH's, is that they come with lots of toy surprises!
All that said, do me one favor: Remember that on trail rides, what you look like isn't as important as self safe and having a good time near your horse. The best answer may just be leaving well satisfactory alone.
Good luck!
