Question for pet groomers contained by Tennessee?
My mother is watching over my dog (a shih-tzu) for me while I am in China. All of her shots and licenses are up to date, I even gave the paperwork to my mother for proof. I am from Florida and I hold a 3 year shot and license on my dog that was issued in June 2007. When she tried to take her to be groomed, the groomer blatantly, outright refuse to do anything with my dog, saying that they can only groom dogs near a one year license and one year shots...I did some research online and Tennessee has 3 year vaccines, but not 3 year licenses. Shouldn't she be able to capture my dog groomed with proof of vaccination?
Answers: Yes, your dog should qualify as up to date on vaccinations. A groomer requiring one year vaccines when your state allows 3 year vaccines is single serving to cut down on potential business (or maybe is married to a vet who wants more trade!) Rabies vaccine is required by law, with some states requiring annual but most allowing 3 year vaccines. The AVMA has lately concluded that even the typical DHLP shots are good for more than one year. Seems this groomer is setting their own rules and going against accepted policy when it comes to vaccinations. Surely at hand are other groomers in the area besides just this one? I'd recommend finding another groomer.
