Question almost animal bites?
Okay, so if a dog bites someone-- people immediately want to hold it put down..
I have a rat who bit me, (several times since we got her) and when I ask how to "get rid of her" a few Y!A users attack me for not re-homing her or keeping her!
10 days ago I be bit 5 times on my hand. I started antibiotics when it started swelling a few days later. My hand still become severely swollen, infected, red, hot to the touch, and very painful! So yesterday I went final to the Dr and got an injection of antibiotics in my right butt cheek..
It's starting to get better, but I mull over it is still ridiculous to keep this animal. I have tried so hard to work next to her and now I give up... I have 7 other rats besides her adjectives very tame. I do NOT want to re-home her and have someone else hold to get an injection in their right butt cheek too.
So what is the difference between what type of animal bites, and then "getting rid of it"?! Anyone want my rat?! :)
First off, turn the other cheek next time you go rear for another shot, ha ha sorry could not resist
legit::: a pet is a pet, no matter what type of animal it is, and it is so very hard to brand name a decision in these type cases.it is gonna be your decision..but, is she aggressive to the other rats, could you place her and one other rat within the same cage so she will not be alone, and then gain some really good thick gloves to handle her beside.
I would not let the poor baby stay in a round up the rest of her life by herself..if she is biting you and the other rats, then she is not suited for a hand on pet.you could re-home her, with someone that Works with this type of aggression, then you would not hold to put her down.
good luck, and sorry, your rump hurts from the shot..
I reflect you are quite right. This rat is not a good pet, and she'll bite her next owner too. I enjoy no problem with euthanizing her.
If she were mine, I would do it myself, as I consider it my responsibility, and I am able to do it painlessly as resourcefully as the vet. But that's a matter of choice. The poor rat simply did not have the temperament for a pet.
Answers: I've have Rats all my life, and I have have snakes too. TO me a Biting rat is worthy of saving a snakes life. I didnt put up with aggressive rats solely because, despite PaintedDreams suggestions no one wanted them. I know Painted Dreams is passionate give or take a few rats and I respect that though, I have tried rehoming biters too but no one would want it if it bit. As you know Rats bite HARD and they are not nice approximately it. I have had plenty of very tender bite. I even have slight nerve damage surrounded by my pinky finger from a mom rat that was protecting the litter. She latched on and didnt let go. She gnaw at my finger it was horrific. I didnt euth her because i could understand she was protecting babies, but I have to get 1 stitch and antibiotics for weeks. I have been bitten by dogs, cats, crazy animals but I tell you nothing was a desperate or painful as the rats bite. I can understand you want for it. I would myself do the same contained by the situation. I wouldn't have put it down for one bite but 5 times is a little too much. I dont think I would hold on to it in a cage for anyone else to accidentally get nab if they were not aware of the biting tendencies of this rat.
hit it on the head
you have pet rats ewww. Well you could other get a pet snake.
If I could, I would take her. I own no issue with biters.
In my opinion, the difference between an aggressive dog and an aggressive rat? The rat lives in a shut within. You have control over whether the rat has access to you. They don't roam loose.
There are more people feeling like to provide a home for an aggressive rat, than an aggressive dog, too.
In the end, it's your ruling. You choose the fate of this rat. I do think the option should be nearby, to see if there's an experienced rat owner locally that is willing to supply a home for her, but like I said...in the close, it's your choice.
I raise rats for nurture (snakes, lizards, and raptors have to eat too) as well as pets. I know which round up this rat would go into. She would not be bred nor would she be kept. The rats that I breed are nice and calm. Even the older ones brand good pets. There are too many unwanted nice pet rats out there need homes to keep one that bites. I hope that your hand gets better. Bites can become particularly serious so I'm glad that you are under a doctor's care.
This is actually a very tough grill. I never owned rats (just don't like their look or smell), but I have owned a few hamsters. My sister had a dwarf hamster who be pretty mean.. she bit someone each time we took her out. To be honest, we just vanished her in her cage and wheel apart from when we cleaned her cage. She didn't like being handle and never warmed up to handling in her 3-4 yrs so we let her be.
I don't know what to propose. They don't really put rats down for biting people and I don't know where else you could re-locate him/her. Sorry. Good luck.
