Vets and Farmers!! Help! ?

Sorry this is in the Pet section but I didn't know where else to put it.

I live surrounded by the uk and im 16. I want to be a Vet and have been building up some work experience like going to clinics and such, and plentifully of the Vets have said that Lambing is a really good way to go and get experience and it looks good on your references. I really would like to find a cultivator that would take me on for a week. Is there a way I should run about this? Are there any specific things I need to know? And most importantly are most Farmers merry to let a 16 year old with no experience on their grow? Really would be grateful for ANY information from anybody who knows about it.
Thanks! =]
You a moment ago need to take a drive and stop and talk to the farmers, any they will let you come out to help or know of some one who will. Don't expect pay that will turn them bad. You can learn quite a bit on the farm.
Try going to college first, build up some hand on experience there! (Reaseheath College is an ace college. It is in Nantwich, and has a cavernous range of exotic animals you can work with. Take a look at their website! ) http://www.reaseheath.ac.uk/courses/anim...

You could start on an animal care course, consequently do agriculture! Both courses have real animals for you to work with.
I've be lambing for years, it's good for extra money, i learnt on my aunts fruit farm.
farmers are all different, they won't let you onto their farm and run start lambing completely unattended with no experience, but some would let you shadow them and learn, alot of farmers though are a bit set surrounded by their ways, and wouldn't want someone shadowing them, I had a girl with me for a few weeks last christmas when i be lambing down my aunts farm with her dorsets, she said she found it quite difficult finding someone who would agree to tolerate her shadow them and learn, this year my aunt is employing her to help out lambing so i can progress off and help a friend of her's with a much bigger troop. You can expect to be paid little to nothing initially as you will be little help to them.
Just ring around farm, or go see them, show your willing to learn and do adjectives you can to help, don't expect the first farm you try to say yes, a moment ago keep asking, don't give up!
Good luck.

Hi i studied agriculture at college, and found that allot of farmers are more than inclined to let you help out on the farm. Lambing season is a really busy time of year and farmers are usually more than happy to agree to you help, as long as you show initiative.
I have been involved surrounded by dairy farming for 12 years and there is still allot for me to learn and i also presume farmers learn new things all the time no situation how long they have farmed for.
I only did my 1st lambing season this year and i learn allot, but you would be better off trying to find a small family run farm not a big one approaching i worked on as you were constantly on your feet, and there be lots of things happening that you wouldn't see as much of on a smaller farm, i.e: death rate is Higher and not as much excitement goes towards the animals. I found it rather upsetting, and vowed never to do lambing on a farm that intensive again.
Answers:    It depends on the cultivator, but if you're keen to learn, and aren't afraid to draw from your hands dirty and do what can be hard work and long hours, you will get on pretty all right.

I first went lambing in my first year at vet school and the cultivator thought I'd be a typical 'city girl' - I soon proved them wrong, and lambed for them for four years. I'm now good friends with the family circle and go visit them every so often!

Things to try are the local agricultural magazine - people start advertising from now up until nearly March. Also try and agricultural colleges in your area - explain your situation and see if they know any farm that are good for beginners. Most farmers will show you what to do - they wont chuck you in with the sheep and move you to it!

Feel free to chat via Yahoo messages if you need any more help!
