We hold two womanly boar goats we ponder near pregnant but aren't certain how can we detail?
it is pretty hard to tell in a goat, but whether they have benn running with the billy for a few days they probably are bred. they will kid in five and a partially months.
It depends on how determined you are to know. There is a company call BioTracking that will accept a blood sample and do a test to determine whether your does (female goats) are pregnant. I believe it is around $8 per test. Other than that, there is no "tried and true" method to know if they are pregnant for certain.
Answers: I've never used a blood test to determine if a doe is bred or not. I just keep watch on for their esterus cycle and breed them at that time. I write the breed date down and make sure they don't cycle again in 21 days. If they do turn back into heat, then I know the breeding be unsuccessful.
This time of year, the esterus cycle in an unbred doe should be pretty obvious. A doe will go into boil for about 2 days every 21 days until bred. Esterus is usually indicated by tail flagging and wagging, and plentiful times, the doe becomes much more vocal or friendly towards people, other goats, and whether you have a buck, definitely towards him.
A doe in eterus will urinate small amounts and to some extent often. Other does will sometimes smell the urine stream and give the "lip curl" when smelling it. The vaginal area may appear swollen or enlarged. Sometimes, a sticky, stringy discharge is also observed (we generally refer to this rather disgusting phenomenon as "goo-butt").
If you observe this type of behavior, your doe is not bred, and can be introduced to a buck as soon as her heat is observed. A doe surrounded by heat should stand for the buck and allow him to breed her. A pregnant doe or a doe who is not in heat will run, lock her tail down or fracas with a buck.
If you see any of your does go into heat, they are not bred. Write the date down on the calendar and subtract a trip to the buck 21 days from that time if you want to make sure she is bred for spring kids.
