Answers: I have a chinchilla... and cat. In my parents house we had an elder cat and the chinchilla was a baby. I then moved out beside my fiance and got a new cat, about a year out-of-date... so far, no problems!
Obviously you can't have a chinchilla out of the cage at the same time as the cat. Cat's will walk to chase it - it's effectively a moving target for them. As long as you keep the cage off the floor and not readily subsequent to something that the cats can sit on (ie. a sofa arm) then you shouldn't have problems. Chinchilla's jump around contained by their cage, so the cat will watch them. But it's the same as principle your cats not to scratch the sofa. If they watch, but don't pounce or chase then at hand are no problems. It's just making sure you have the time to train them thoroughly to adopt the noise and another animal.
The main con, is that whichever room you keep the chinchilla contained by, you can't leave the cats alone in there. For us, we own to shut the cat out of the living room at night as thats where we keep the chinchilla. Chinchilla's are nocturnal so it'll take home the most noise when you're in bed, so you don't want to depend on your cats not reacting (even the best trained cats will return to their primal instincts).
Any other question, please let me know!
i think chinchillas can be really expensive because they made them for fur but i doesnt matter whether u can afford it,btw i love chinchillas too!
