Who out nearby have pet ferret and what do you nurture them?
i have raised ferret for over 20 yrs and have never given them anything that is meant for cats or kittens and i own never fed them raw meat with the ferret foods that r on the bazaar u don't have to feed them anything else u can give them ferret treats but not cat food it contains ash and that is to say not good for ur ferret's health i have a ferret right presently that i adopted that was fed cat & kitten food her dub is Bindi and she is 8 months old and yet she is the size of a 3 month old why the cat food did not unite the nutritional needs that Bindi needed and there for stopped her from growing she will always be the size of a 3 month matured ferret and will need ferret food and a special food called carnivore this is a high vitamin giant calories, protein, calcium meat based food that she will have to eat for the rest of her life span if she is to survive. and all this could own been avoided by just feeding her ferret food do ur self a desire and don't listen to the ones who say feed cat food or raw meat ur asking for vigour problems with ur ferret if u do. ok ppl start ur emails i'm ready for them lol
I feed mine EVO (ferret or feline version, both are pretty much the same) and ZiwiPeak Daily-Cat Cuisines (I agree that some cat foods are not ok for ferret, but ZP is ok and it has everything a ferret needs). I also give them Wysong Ferret Archetypal-1 on occasion (it's expensive, so it's not something I can afford to go and get all the time). I'd like to eventually switch my ferrets to a unconscious diet (I've been planning on starting the switch for awhile now, but health issues save popping up and I don't want to stress them out more by switching their diet on them).
Answers: I have three ferrets. Maddox, Mango and Milo. They are wonderful. I feed my ferret marshall pet ferret food. Most ferrets are raised on Marshall pet, so I do recommend it.
I do not like it when inhabitants feed their ferrets cat food. I have a ferret next to horrible nutrition because he was on cat food for his entire life up until i adopted him.
My personal openion, and immensely strong openion, is buy ferret food. And not the cheap stuff from walmart.
I have a happy ferret designation Merlin. We started him out on ferret food, for the first two months of his life, then switched him to Iams dry kitten food, occasionally some Purina kitten chow tossed in. Any pricey,non generic kitten food will do, and once they hit three years weak, switch to regular expensive dry cat food.
I have owned three other ferrets and both were feed kittne food and cat food all their lives. Both lived to be 9+yars old, which is old older for a ferret. It is nutritionally the same as ferret food, with just as much meat, and habitually much cheaper then ferret food.
I have 2 ferrets name Jago and Otter and I nurture then Drs Foster and Smith Ferret Food mixed with Marshall Farms ferret food, I agree with Rachel...Cat and kitten food is for cats and kittens not ferret and their long term health can suffer because of the poor nutrition... and Iams is an all around waste food anyways I wouldnt even feed it to feral cats!!
If you own a kit i would say start him off on kitten food meat one,, whether you ask a ferret breeder or a vet! even they will say to. then move to plain chicken.
