Who owns a lemur for lemur ed 101?
would like some great reading material on the care, anatomy, cage of lemurs and or hear from lemur owners on there experiences
you can't own a lemur. they aren't pets, try googling them,
Try zoology books. Every species of lemur is endangered so they are not allowed as pets per CITES.
Answers: Federal law- They are on the endangered list so you will requirement federal permit.
State law- IF they are legal in your state you will also necessitate a permit.
There is a lot of paperwork and legal fees involved within owning a primate, especially when it comes to ones on the endangered list. I am at smallest glad to see that you are attempting to learn some about them though. It really upsets me when people merely run out and buy something like this when they haven't done their homework first. Too many exotics suffer and even die because their owners were not conversant about their care. Don't be one of them! Education is key!
Firstly, I'm certain you have heard this 100 times, but it'd be neglectful of me to not convey you. They bite! All non-human primates do. (Some humans do for that matter!) I have 2 Capuchins and they both bite, scratch, slap, verbs hair, and scream. There is nothing you can do in the order of. You cannot 'punish' a monkey. They are wild animals. I just have a large amount of tolerance for them. If you are not extremely patient, you can't own them.
Also, I never encourage anyone to just purchase one monkey (or prosimian since we are discussion about lemurs). If you can't afford at least 2 of them, forget it! It's cruel and nasty to purely keep one! They are family oriented animals. They will suffer from depression whether they do not have other 'troop' members.
