Why and how do you go and get a horse to stop paw at the ground?
There is a horse that I have that just popped up on a friend of my father's property after the storm(hurricane Ike) and since then not a soul has claimed him and he said that I can have him, so i really don't know anything about his historic history. He is very friendly he will walk up to anyone even if you don't own any food adn he will let you ride him. There is also another horse out there too but he is not quite broke however so I can't show Justice(the one who paws) that there is nothing to be afraid of by doing the other horses hooves but they are good friends.
Anyways I own tried to pick his hooves twice and every time about 5 min after I start he would start pawing at the ground. I know that he has a score about 3-4 1/2 inches long on the back of his back right hoof and have a scar towards the back bottom of his stomach and this one looks like an escape blotch, but every time I would try do his hooves he would paw at the ground. He does not do it when I bathe him or anything else just when I try to pick his hooves. What can I do to stop it and how do I know why he is pawing at the ground?
Do you know what I can put on his scar to make them better?
*Note*
He also has little cracks in his hooves and I ask a woman about that and she said he had dry hoof and told me to put hoof moisturizer on it and I did today so I will see what happen with that.
Answers: Make you sure put stuff on his hooves for sure. I so farrier and cracks can win worse fast if not treated.
His pawing the ground could be because hes bored too. I own had a horse who did that and no matter what I did he thought it was ok, let somebody know him NO and give him a light jerk of the halter to permit him know its not ok to paw.
Are his cuts open or healed? Is there any swelling, whether there is maybe try a cold compress and wrap it until it heals lately so nothing gets into it and make certain they are clean and nothing in them as powerfully.
Pick up his feet and put them right back down, don't let them stir falling down, put them on the ground gently and tell him good boy up to that time he paws and is he does after correct it and tell him no.
