Why are Ferrets Illegal contained by CA?
Im pretty sure the headline itself is question enough
But i've googled it and truly looked and don't understand exactly why ferretts are illegal surrounded by california. I mean honestly?
It's because ferret are often carriers of serious diseases. CA officials foreboding that if ferrets escaped (or if there's rats surrounded by the house--ugh), they would spread those diseases to the CA rat population, which would spread it to any dogs/cats that kill/eat the rats, which would spread it to their owners.
So basically CA is worried about a superbug sickess outbreak.
Over-protective and paranoid? Yes.
The law? Unfortunately, yes.
The full term of the ferret is Mustela Putorius Furo. Mustela Putorius is the wild European polecat, and although the Furo on the end of the name distinguishes the domesicated ferret from the furious Euro polecat, in the same way Canis Lupus is the wolf and Canis Lupus Familiaris is the dog, the Californian govt seem to be to think that the ferret is a wild animal because of his scientific pet name. Wild animals kept as pets are seen as a threat to the natural environment if they escape, which is hogwash. Also, people think ferrets are hazardous. That idiot Guiliani compared keeping a ferret to "keeping a tiger". Lol, what a moron. So glad he didnt stay in the presidential race. You dont want a guy who cant educate himself on anything running your country!
There hasn't been established a known reason for that since the completing in 1933.
one of the things I enjoy heard is that the CA government is scared that a bunch of ferret will get loose and breed and become a pets problem and destroy the natural undomesticated life of CA.
(though that is impossible since all ferret in the US are fixed prior to going to a home and ferrets would never be capable of survive in the wild due to the predators, like cats, foxes, birds, dogs, pretty much everything)
Answers: If all ferrets that be bred were 'fixed' there'd be no ferrets since once the breeding stock died there could be no more kit.
I used to keep ferrets to go hunting near so I know how well they can survive in the wild and how well they can kill. If they were made legal to preserve as pets someone would start breeding them and it only takes 2 to escape 1 male and 1 womanly for them to get established, they could quickly destroy an ecosystem. Just look at Australia as an example, like mad of indigenous native wildlife is now extinct due to invasive pets.
It's not that it will happen but it could develop
Florida is another good example they have many non-native species in a minute upsetting the delicate balance of nature
California sure has some screwed up laws. You folks attain taxed to death, kick the military out of San Francisco outlaw ferret?
Crazy!
Been found to be into strong drugs in a big way, they can get by Police to nurture their habits by selling and not paying any protection money, or TAX this got up the GOVERNS nose, they take into custody one two take its place. The FEDS have a dedicated troop to brake them but not one will squeal on its mates, so now you no its been the best kept Secret.
