Alternatives to sunlight for my red ear slider?
i have 2 red ear sliders but right now i cant afford a uv light for them. is within any alternatives such as certain food i can give them so that they can get like peas in a pod vitamines the sun gives them?
Try strips of liver dusted with bone meal. That will provide both vitamin D and calcium. I've never if a basking light for my snapper and we've been together since 1965.
Sorry, there's no alternative to UVB source than either the sun itself or a UVB bulb.
By the approach, I've had people say that putting the container by a window works for UVB. NO IT DOESN'T. Windows filter out the UVB rays and all you are doing is messing with the temp of the sea and introducing possible drafts. Keep em' away from the window's please : )
Answers: Offer a lot of Calcium enriched next to Vitamin D3...D3 is really important if the light requirements are not fully man utilized. However, that will just slow the problem down.
It still needs UVB light. A low wattage flood muted would work, just make sure it is not a spot flood wishy-washy because they can scorch the turtle and its enclosure.
Oikos: could that possibly be from snappers inhabiting typically murky and deep sea as opposed to the typical basking pond turtles? Have you tried it with pond turtles too?Is here any info anywhere that leads evidence of turtles being fully supplamented from liver stips alone -------BTW, not being spiteful, just looking for new info!
