Ball python housing quiz ?
Can a aspen snake bedding that is from petco be used as a ball python substrate?
How big does a full grown ball pythons reservoir need to be?
I dont like that stuff
Your snake could possibly swallow it when it eat
And if it gets wet it wont be accurate for the snake either
Since the snakes going to need humidity... that stuff is going to get raining.
Put newspaper down and be done with it
So what it doesnt look "woodsy" in the reservoir.
Its easy to clean and not unhealthy for the snake
And i wouldnt hold on to a full grown Ball in anything smaller than a 55
Aspen is probably THE best substrate for a ball python, it looks great, and is very past the worst, I've never heard of a ball python dying from newspaper ink thats particularly odd, you can also use papertowels which is another cheap alternative to aspen if your not willing to discharge the money.
If you can get aspen I'd highly recommend it.
Best of luck,
Adam
Acceptable substrates are treated fir yelp chips, aspen shavings, cypress bed (not blend) or orchid bark. My adult female stays and does outstandingly well in a 55- gallon breeder. She is 7rs. old.
snakeman is right. use newspaper. the feeding issues (with the issue getting into his mouth) could be dangerous. also, the story of the snake dyeing because of the newspaper is ridiculious. most things that are printed these days are printed near soy ink, natural and safe. also, the ink in the weekly will keep mites down to a minimal level. just remember to look at the stomach scales of your snake every once in a while. if they are pink in color at any time, your snake is sick or mal-nutritioned. surface free to get ahold of me and ask a question if you requirement to! im here to help.
Answers: Aspen is fine.
I recommend at least 30"x12" floor space for an adult but larger is other better.
You can maintain humidity without soaking the substrate.
My wood cages stay between 50%-60% minus doing any thing. Screen tops are harder to maintain, requiring that you cover part of the peak and daily misting.
I use aspen for all my snakes,I use a 10 gallon reservoir starting off and work my way up to a 55 gallon. Ball can be as long as 4 feet to 6 foot in size.I had a female that be 5 ft, my male I have is 3 1/2 ft.Ball pythons can get big.
aspen bedding is the best for snakes .
believe it or not, but pythons do not need that big of a terrarium .
as long as the snake is not to crammed into the tank it should be fine .
i would propose getting something not too small but not too big .
it just depends on the size or your snake .
hope i helped :)
