No, they don't NEED one but they DO need a heating pad beneath neath there cage ..

No, they dont utiluse sunlight in the wild. Just a warmness source attached to a thermostat will do them fine...if you use a light bulb make certain it is covered by mesh so the snake cant burn itself.
