Hermit crab request for information?
well i am getting 2 hermit crabs next monday so i have need of some finale care questions. well is petco a appropriate place to buy hermit crabs in oregon? about how much dose it cost for everthing you want for 2 hermit crabs and i dont want the kit. and i goto bend oregon or some were else surrounded by septemper so i need a someone to take care of my crabs for roughly speaking 1week. could i teach one of my friends to how to take care of my outsider crabs or should i find a place to do it for me. what cant they have for wood logs to climb on

I buy my crabs from Petco because they're my only option here. If you enjoy small pet shops with hermit crabs - get them in attendance. It's not guaranteed that your crabs are going to be healthy coming from any store - but at least you know the owner loves animals. Places like Petco or Petsmart hire anybody, and they generally don't care about their job.
The cost will list from $50-100 depending upon how crafty you are and where you buy everything.
Yes of course you can teach your friend how to steal care of them. Make sure they know not to touch them. If they pick your crab up, they may get upset and drop it - or throw it if they get pinched. All they really have to do is net sure they have food & water, brand name sure the temperature is ok, and note any shell change.

WELL, THE PETCO IS PLACE, IS FINE TO BUY THEM. ABOUT 50.00 SHOULD BE ENOUGH FOR EVERYTHING. AND WHEN YOU LEAVE YOU SHOULD BE FINE, JUST LEAVE FOOD IN THEIR TANK AND THEN, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A HEATER, THEN THEY SHOULD BE FINE. AND WATER..LOL.
Answers: Hermit crabs are pretty low maintenance. All you need to do to exactness for them is to clean the cage out every now and consequently and provide food and water. You can get either loner crab food which lasts a long time, or you can feed them fruit, peanut butter, and crackers...but if you do that you'll enjoy to change their food every day. I just use loner crab food from the pet-store.
It is very important that you keep river available at all times. I don't recommend the water sponge that comes in the utensils because the sand just absorbs it all and the sponge any dries up quickly or gets moldy. I use a squirt bottle to squirt water surrounded by a seashell for my crabs...just make sure near is always a little bit of water within it.
Crabs like to sleep in dark places, so I hold a little hut that is made from half a coconut...they other sleep in there. Make sure they enjoy things to climb on, like wood, and make sure you hold a few extra empty shells that are just a touch bigger than the shell your crab is in now. When it grows it will need a larger shell, and whether you don't provide it with one, it will die.
You aren't going to find a place to take care of the crabs for you...they don't precisely have "hermit crab kennels." Just ask a friend to take protection of them. All they will have to do is make sure they hold food an water.
