How to increase humidity surrounded by my son's loner crab cistern?
I'm looking for a way to increase the humidity level in my son's loner crabs tank? What is the easiest way to do this?
I don't think it's humid plenty. I have a heating lamp turned on facing the reservoir and the temp is perfect -- a constant 79 degrees, but I don't cogitate it's humid enough. It's very dry. We always keep hold of water in there but we enjoy to fill the 2 pools of water twice a day because it evaporates so against the clock.
you may want to cover the tank with something to trap the humidity be certain to leave a air hole obedient luck
spray aka "mist" the reservoir with a cheap garden sprayer filled with room temp bottled or dechlorinated hose once or twice a day, if the tank is all right ventilated u could block off some ventalation with a towel or plastic and use a substrate that holds river
Answers: First, don't use sponges. They only get moldy. If you have them, throw them out. If you're worried in the order of your crab drowning, add small pebbles or shells (clean them with the same saline water you would give to them as a bath) to the bottom of the water dish.
If this isn't ample, what we find works best is creating a moss pit for your crabs. Buy moss from a craft store, pet store, or dollar store. To make one, get a shower caddy from a bath store (Linens 'n Things is going out of commerce, so you can get one for cheap there, just build sure that there's no metal because it will rust and the crabs might eat the flakes), fill it beside a little bit of the moss pit, and stick it onto the side of your tank. Then add for a moment ramp or net of some sort for your crabs to climb up to it and viola! An extra section for them to explore, and a rise of humidity.
But back putting the moss in the tank, be sure to follow these steps from the easily crabby website:
"PREPARATION
Grab a quart size or larger glass bowl. Place a large handful of moss into the bowl and then steep halfway with prepared salt hose down. (The kind you give your hermit crabs to drink.) Push down top moss until it's adjectives wet. Microwave for one minute. This will kill any seeds or bugs or eggs that hold been hitchhiking on your moss. Take the moss out of the microwave and let cool. Gently squeeze off the excess wet and place in your crabitat wherever you want it! Once it turns from green to brown, remove (check for hiding crabs) and then replace."
Also, whether it's in a plastic tank, that could also be a cause. Plastic tank do not hold in humidity as well as glass tank.

how many sponges do you own in there? i had a ample tank and had about 3, it help the humidity level.
Try spraying the sides of the tank with water, or put within a very large shallow bowl and re-fill it as often as you can. Hermit crabs approaching to take baths anyway
