I own a scorpion and i dont enjoy a heat mat however and the light im using heat the reservoir up to glorious to in haste ?
im scared because where i live gets really cold at night sometimes so i cant leave it off im confused can anybody help?
You could a moment ago put in a small wattage globe, maybe 25 watts, and clear sure its not too close.
to tag on to Catherine Z's answer the humidity is extremely important. Emporer scorpions need a high humidity. Most death happen when they are molting and they humidity is too low. This is why its extremely important for the babies as they molt more often. Mist the pen a couple times a day to help with the humidity problem.
Answers: How cold, and what type of scorpion? If your house doesn't procure below 45-50 at night, you probably don't need the lamp.
An emp should be fine at dark as long as your house isn't so cold it is in danger of turning into an ice dice (<45) as long as it warms up a bit during the day. In lieu of a heat mat (placed on the side of the container, not the bottom!) if you think the tank is getting too hot, you can lower the wattage of the bulb or switch to a stoneware heat emitter bulb (also of lower wattage which emits no light). If the tank is heat up too fast, just a reminder: emps are forest scorpions, not desert scorpions, so make certain the bulb doesn't dry out the cage too much. They need humidity, especially the babies.
