My friends own boas and pythons and they are sweet and nice.Tell her this non-constrictor snakes are usually poisonous.(its true). This happens because they requirement strong venom to kill the things they eat because whether not they can struggle and even kill the snake.Boas and pythons rule.Lucky my mom wont even let me keep a garter snake but my dad will tolerate me get a 10 ft. long boa.

GOOD LUCK,but only if i could convince my mom...
Answers:    Well I had my first python a ball at the age of 7, and my first boa constrictor at the age of 13. Jungle carpet average 5-7 feet, so it is well with surrounded by a responsible teenagers scope to care for such a snake.
And many colubrids as kings and corns can achieve 5+ feet.
A lot of people have a perceived notation that adjectives boas and pythons are 20+ foot monstrosities, which is not true. Only a few species obtain such lengths as a Burmese, which my grandmother wouldn't let me carry because of this. Educating your grandmother about the snake and its care will go a long approach.

Here is a great link for info and care on carpet pythons

You can other look at other smaller boas or pythons.

I am 22 now but growing up me and my bestfriend had a ball python. Hers be named daisey and mine was damien. We have never EVER have a problem with them. They are really the safest kind of snake to have as a pet because they do not bite and they are ripe. My gf used to walk around with it on her shoulders all the time she be in absolute love. I own Geckos now but she still have Pythons at 23. Good luck. Just make sure you dont let it attain loose you may never win the hide and seek game! Just own to be really responsible and never put your hands in the cage during their feed.
