I want to receive a tortoise. Is that a worthy belief? Please read my situation?
here's my situation
-i live in Idaho( up north )
-I go to school
-My mom expects me to thieve care of it by my self
-I have limited space
-my mom say she will pay for only a little bit
-I've never taken watchfulness of a small animal except fish
-I have a HUGE dog and 2 playful cats(they never tried to eat my fish )
-this is open but I don't want it to live too long
Terrible idea. Tortoises have an extremely soaring start up cost (at least $400 to $500) they require huge habitats, fresh veggies DAILY, special lighting, depending on the breed they can get huge, and they live for 50 to 100 years. A tortoise is a lifetime commitment and companion - whether you want to go with a small animal that is not fuzzy, run with something like a frog (not very handleable though) or small lizard.
Reptiles are difficult pets, and definitely not for novice pet owners. They require special lights to keep hold of their cages at the correct temperatures, which requires reasonably a bit of attention.
Turtles are also vegetarians which will require you to chop up fresh vegetables for them daily, and unanimously to sprinkle vitamin powder on their food regularly.
The water must be kept clean, and replaced regularly, as well as the rest of the round up.
Keeping your reptiles healthy is not for the casual pet owner who wants to lift minimal care of the animal. Also turtles do generally live for a very long time depending on the species.
If you do want to get one, make sure to do LOTS of research BEFORE you buy it. Make certain you know exactly what you are getting yourself into, it is a long commitment.
Turtles & tortoises are VERY long-living animals.
Your last thing said "I don't want it to live too long", so perhaps tortoises aren't for you.
Please do research to find the best pet for you.
I don't judge it's a great idea, no. Tortoises require a great deal of care, and some types do want a fair bit of space. They're also expensive-- not just purchase price, but supplies and upkeep-- so if your mom isn't paying that, you'd have need of a lot of money saved. Your other pets might also try to bother it.
Plus... um... tortoises live a very long time. If have a pet that won't live too long is part of what you want, even if it's optional, you are looking at the WRONG type of animal. I don't regard as a tortoise is for you.
Answers: It doesn't sound like you are a candidate to bring care of a tortoise.. and they do need care and sometimes necessitate veterinary care. It's not easy to find a vet who can treat a tortoise. All of the situations that you have tabled go against you as a tortoise owner. Wait until you are older, have studied tortoises, can provide the right environment and can afford to rob care of one properly.
No method! Turtles live a long long life. And why would you say that?? I don't think you should own any pets next to that attitude. Try stuffed animals.
