Tips for handling a bright globe python?
i just bought a 2 month old pastel ball python from a private breeder and he's gorgeous! i just had a couple of questions that i haven't found any well brought-up answers for and thought i'd start asking around.
firstly, when is the best time to handle a ball python? he spends a lot of time contained by his hide and i wasn't sure if it be ok to take him out of his hide to handle him, or whether that would stress him out.
secondly, i know you're not supposed to handle ball pythons after they've eaten, so what's the best item to do after feeding him in a separate enclosure? should i move him posterior to his tank to let him digest? or what should i do?
you can handle the ball any time but after he get done drinking wait awhile the handle and when he is in the obscure you can take it out of there to if you want
You can handle him at of late about any time, however they are more active at night so he will already be out and roughly during the nighttime hours.
Feeding in a separate tub is good, just make a contribution him a few minutes after finishing and the put him in his enclosure and leave him alone for at most minuscule 3 days.
Answers: Because ball pythons are on the whole active at night, evenings would probably be the best time to start to get acquainted beside your new ball python. After he gets used to you regularly handling him at nite and he have assimilated to his new home, you can then switch on handling sessions during the late afternoon hours and then work him during the mid-day. Eventually, you will be able to manipulate him at anytime with no real worries of him becoming stressed. He will inevitability to get used to being handled at adjectives times of the day because, let's say you are going to have to remove him from his paddock because you are going to do a total cage clean out and it happens to be 1:00 within the afternoon. When you feed in a seperate container, wait almost 15-20 minutes and then gently place him back contained by his original enclosure close to where his obscure is. As your snake gets older and used to the feeding routine, you will not enjoy to wait quite so long to put him back. My elder adults go back into their original enclosure just fine 5 minutes after they have feed and, are not handle for 48 hours. Remember to respect your snake and allow him to have "his time" too. Over-handling can cause a ball python to dance off the feed.
Ball pythons are amazingly docile and you can handle most any time. I own one myself and the only time I do not handle him is when his eyes are clouded over and he is getting in place to shed. I do however handle while he is shedding just make certain his eyes are not cloudy anymore. I put him in the bath tub for soaking so his shed is easier for him. I feed him within a separate box than what he lives in. I wait about 10 minuets formerly moving him back to his cage. At least study him and you can tell when he has got the food pushed down far ample to handle him. I hope this helps you. Good Luck!
