What is the ABSOLUTE BEST UV restrained (besides the sun) for diurnal reptiles?
Specifically Bearded dragons and Panther chameleons.
So far the best I've had are the fluorescent T-5's (2 bulb fixture) by coralife. Is there anything better out there?
well brand wise at hand isnt a huge difference anymore
but beardies need 10-12% and i think panthers need 5-7%
mercury vapor bulbs come across to be quite fashionable at the moment they give out bake and UV light but personally im an old conservatory UV florencent tube man myself
Mercury Vapor Bulbs are very good. You can get them from Big Apple Herpetological for deeply cheap. The wavelengths from MVB are just like those of the sun. And also, it is more natural because it is wishy-washy, heat, and UV all from one source. They last almost a year, MUST be facing straight down, and are really great.
Answers: Best UVB hurricane lantern is the MegaRayUV you can buy it from http://www.reptileuv.com.
Make sure it has uva and uvb, and is no more than 12 inches away from the animal's bask spot. If there is a screen between the light and the animal, some of the restrained will be scattered and therefore the light must be stronger or closer.
If you fulfill that requirement, you should be fine (assuming your timing and temps are right). It a moment ago depends on what brand fits your set-up and what you can get in your area. I couldn't think about having those things shipped to my door, I'd expect a box full of broken glass!
I have a hood that holds 2 incandescent bulbs and 1 fluorescent strip bulb. i love it! I get mine in 2006 and have had no problems next to it. The fluor. bulbs last about 6 months and it has withstood 150 watt incandescent bulbs near no signs of burning.
there is a short description on this site: it's the "Tri Light Combo Fixture"

UV BULBS MAKE SURE NO WATER TOUCHES IT OR IT WILL BREAK LIKE MINE
exo terra makes some VERY good UV bulbs, sorry I couldn't help anymore than this :)
I prefer repti glo 10% uv tubes
I see that arcadia now make a 12% output tube but it's a bit on the expensive side at almost twice the price of repti glo 10% tubes
I run 2 tubes contained by all my vivs for diurnal lizards a 10% and a 2% 'daylight tube'
I prefer ceramic heat bulbs for heat because they can be attached to a thermostat with night drop and at least after there's no light to disturb my lizards at night but their heating is still streamlined
