What is the wonderful habitat for a Western Long toed salamander?
I found a Western long toed salamander in my yard today and my step dad have injured its tail with a shovel accidently. It was bleeding but now it seem to be okay.
Anyways, my brother has decided to keep it and aid for it but needs some pointers. What kind of habitat is ideal? Water or no wet? What kind of plants or rocks ect should I have in nearby? How much light and heat do they need? What is the great temperature?
Also, I got some mealworms for it but they seem a bit big for such a small salamander. He is about 4 inches long and the meal worms are a little smaller amount than an inch long. Does this matter, or can they eat something that is that big? What else could we nurture him?
Any other info or tips are also appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)
Answers: i work at a pet store and we sell salamaders and we try to hold them in a wet enviroment so yes u need marine with vegetation real or deceitful plants, a rock to hide beside or lay on top any kind of rock, it can stay in room temp but we put a 50 watt bulb over the reservoir, 10 gallon tank minimum, mealworms are ok but are not good to feed adjectives the time go to a petstore and buy cricket with vitamins on them make certain u dont grab bugs from outside bc they might have pesticides, the bedding can be gravel, sand, peat moss, rag, anything that works we use peat moss but u have to change it bc it will mold after awhile, get a spray bottle, own about 3 rocks also maybe a heat wipe under the tank not inside bc i could burn the belly.. but adjectives in all it wont cost much and good luck!
