2.5 year prehistoric ratty, love this little girl, what to do?
She is the best rat i've ever had. I know that the cure for what ails her is simple antibiotics, I also know that this will cost $135. How to weigh the cost of love and the cost my, and family's cost of living?

Well like you said, she's 2 and a partly. Most rats don't make it past 3.5 years. So it's up to you. Get her feeling better for her finishing couple months or have her put to sleep or just wait it out. You'll call for to think long and hard about this one though, population online can't make the decision for you.
Aww.. I have a 3 year-old hamster... I brought her to the vet when she had this huge lump coming out of her side. The vet told me my hamster might have cancer and felt doomed to failure and didn't charge me for the visit. Also, prior to that my hamster had an eye infection. I bought the meds for my hamster's eye. Trust me hun, if you have a sneaking suspicion that its worth it buy those antibiotics. You can sacrifice a bit yourself. Like not drinking a daily coffee from a dunkin donuts or buying fast food. Make your own lunches and stuff and you'll get the money within no time. It made me feel a lot better that I did everything possible for my hamster. Also, you can cut down on a bit of your entertainment like theaters for movies or what not. But from experiences next to pets, i think the money is worth the piece of mind.
Answers: What you'll want to do is find a vet that treats pocket pets. Once you find one - explain to them your situation. A lot of vets are more concerned about making the pet better instead of making a expeditious buck. Tell them you can pay for the antibiotics - and explain to them the symptoms exactly. Some vets will even prescribe antibiotics whether they talk to you and can diagnose the problem over the phone. In this case you won't have to recompense for anything but the antibiotics alone.
I know for a fact that antibiotics won't cost more than $30.
