A dog and guinea pig request for information?
I have a chocolate lab. He is the cutest, friendlyest dog I've ever had. I'm going to get guinea pigs next to in a few weeks and im just prepareing everything. My dog (his name is Duke) sleeps beside me in my bed room. But thats also where I plan to place the guinea pigs. I don't think he should sleep surrounded by there because I have a C&C cage where on earth if he wanted to, snach my guinea pigs in my sleep. So I be planing to have him sleep with my sister now. If he be in a cage could he sleep in here? If he wasn't in a cage could he sleep in within? I dont want anyone to get hurt.
Also can they even be together at all? Or even in equal room? (While im with them)
Well,I think you should test it first. You should let Duke smell the guinea pig.If he is okay near it,then they can both sleep in the room. Let Duke get used to your guinea pig first. Make certain you spend time with them equally,so duke doesnt get jealous.
It really depends on the dog. My great dane, Stein cares less roughly speaking my guinea pig, Monster. In fact, when I am in there, I check out of Monster's cage open. Stein just lies on the floor as Monster zoom across the carpet, without a care surrounded by the world.
As long as you have a top on your C&C cage, which you can make, here should be no problems. Just watch closely when they are in the same room.
I would keep the guinea pig surrounded by a room where the door is always shut and have the dog sleep contained by another room. I have two cats and they were fine with my two guinea pigs for months; I would consent to the guinea pigs run around the house and the cats would just wtch and sniff them and the guinea pigs wouldn't mind. But then adjectives of a sudden last week one of my cats went cray and started attacking one of the guinea pigs and biting it. The guinea pig was okay as I intervened within time but now all the cat does is try to get into the guinea pig shut within to eat it! My point is everything was okay but you never really know what an animal will do and my cat is small with small teeth but you rdog is big and one bite could decimate.
i have a yellow lab =)
she sleeps near me in my room with my hamsters...the first few nights she looked-for to kill them but hten she warmed up to them and got bored. put ur guinea pig close to the dog but past the worst distances and with he/she in your arms. get them used to eachother and net sure there is no way your dog can obtain to your guinea's
Well first of adjectives, I would not boot your pupster out of "his" bedroom!
When you get your guinea pigs, introduce them to Duke while you hold and pet them. Do this several times and let him sniff them while you're holding them a few times also, before putting one on the floor (within your instantaneous grasp).
After a bit, he will get the idea that they belong and are off-limits as toys or prey. Many different animals can be taught to live peacefully together. Just afford dear old Duke some credit
i enjoy a german shepard and a boxer and they were both terrified of my pet rat, like i would bring him out of the hold and they would cringe at the sight of him. it was pretty funny actually. i regard as they could exist without a problem.
Answers: when my guinea pigs were alive i was lucky my dogs could,nt concern less when they came into the house and were allowed to run around they are like with my rabbits my dogs have never ever been aggressive towards my animals they voice hello give them a wash chase each other. i would introduce your guinea pigs slowly to your dog other be there to watch never leave them alone together until you can honestly trust your dog not to attack them i,m lucky beside mine i can but we had the rabbits and guinea pigs before the dogs. if he give them a wash and is gentle with them don't reprimand him he is being friendly but if he gets aggressive punish him within and then. when they meet don,t make a big operation about it no fuss nothing this will tell him your dog it no big settlement if you make a fuss you will more than likely be paid him hyper and not feel comfortable with the guinea pigs good luck and thankful meeting
introduce them and see if they take along. if he seems interseted let them play but whether things get rough scold ur dog. (my dog and guinea pigs are best friends)
My dog slept in my room with my guinea pigs contained by a C&C cage.
But at night I always put a big rug over the top of the shut within until I got more cubes to make a lid.
