A humane place for rats?
I have 3 male fancy rats, and a toddler who I am sooo scraed will hurt my ratties! And they dont get in the neighbourhood as much time out of the cage as they used to. I live in Colorado is there anywhere I can put up add for them? their free!
Why are you getting rid of the rats? Get rid of the toddler.
Try craigslist, petfinder, local vet's office.do a google scrabble for some rescues around you that deal with rodents, perhaps they'll know how to take them in.
Answers: There is no place guaranteed humane. An animal shelter might take them, such as Table Mountain in Lakewood, or Boulder Humane up in Boulder. Denver Dumb Friends League would hold them and they claim to be a no kill shelter - but I've heard otherwise. If you have more info something like the rats, I'm in CO too... but I can't exactly say I want or have need of 3 more rats... but if push comes to shove, and they're socialized since I'm not up to socializing any more ratties... email me from the link on my profile.
Otherwise your other option is putting a free announcement on craigslist.org or on freecycle.org. But there's no guarantee you're not giving someone free snake food.
Also some Petcos will take the ratties and try and adopt them out - but then again, there's no guarantee if they'll be a pet, tolerate alone treated well, or end up as snake food.
You can also try posting on one of the Yahoo rat lists. There is one for Colorado, but I don't know what the christen of the group is since it changed names, and I'm no longer on that list.
