Are ball worthy or bleak?
i have two rats and i was wondering if i could put they within separate balls so they could get extra exercise. what are your opinion on them?
my hamsters and gerbils love their balls! they love to run around and explore in it and it gives them plenty of excersise and some time out of their boring cage. but..one of my gerbils doesnt know how to use the ball yet. he just sits within it.. so, i guess they're not for all rodents. but im sure your rats will love them too.
They're honest because your rats get extra exercise and get to explore unmarked things instead of the boringness of thier cage. The only thin I would read aloud to be careful about is making sure you maintain an eye on them so they dont go rolling down stairs or into a hard to reach place. Also whether you have other animals like a cat or dog, I would try to seperate them when the rats are in thier ball roaming the house.
Answers: They can be a good way to let your rat achieve exercise, but you do have to be careful and accustom your rat to the ball previously they go out and about in it. Start near just leaving it in their hold or play area (not for too long or they will chew it) and see if they will go inside on their own. Some exercise ball come with a stand so they can turn into a wheel that sits in the coop, those would be a good choice if you can find one large plenty. Once the rat explores it for a bit you can put him in it and leave him on a carpeted floor so the ball can't roll around too like greased lightning. He will probably learn to propel it fairly quickly, though whether he seems scared or stressed you should take him out and try again following. If he does well on the carpet you can try it on a hard floor, but do mind your Ps and Qs of stairs, other animals, or anything else that may harm him while he is in the ball. Also label sure to remember he is in there as it is unproblematic to forget about him! Rats shouldn't be kept in exercise balls for too long as they involve to eat, drink, and eliminate very regularly. Give them a break from the balls every 30 minutes or so as needed so they have time to do so. Good luck with your rats!
Make sure you go and get big ones. I got a small/mediumish sized one and my rat is TERRIFIED of it. I'm going to try a bigger one and see if that helps. Rats carry very claustrophobic, or atleast mine does.
