Are dwarf hamsters cool pets?
Just wondering. My girlfriend is getting me one and I wanna know if they are cool.
I know the bedding is a huge part of it, and a huge pain. but are they cuddely, approaching can i take it out and hold it while i watch tv and stuff?
i'd not suggest a dwarf hamster. we got one and we took it back, which is something i would not in general do. but it was nice in the store and then when we get it home, it was nasty as can be.
i've have hamsters (different types) and gerbils, guinea pigs, mice and rats, ferrets too.
i would highly recommend a rat, they are cleaner than hamsters and much more friendly.
also easier to catch whether they do get out of their cage while you are holding them.
also the best bedding i have found thru the years would be the type of cardboard recycled type. we use crittercare from walmart since surrounded by my area i found it to be the most cost effective.
take and keeping visit your local petstore and hold a few different types of rodents and ask them questions.
Well I have 4 dwarf hamster, it all varies on the breed,
I own:
1) Russian campbell
1) Russian winter white
2) Roborovski's
Well at first my campbell wanted to run and run, away from me, he calmed down and he will just look over my mitt... sometime he might try to jump, not high though..
Same with winter whites, mine is purely calming down now, roborovski's are only really possible to hold surrounded by there cage or when their older.
But dwarf hamster, whether you put it on your lap and stuff, it will run away probs and get into the most difficult places.
My winter white, have it 6 mins put it in its new ball mum put on lid wrong (twisted it wrong way)
bang into a cabinet, ball opened, got out, my intuition was to be a hamster, checked behind the TV cabinet. where the most wires are, in the region of 30?
There he is just sitting there, picked him up and he was okay!
So besides, you can hold them when they get a bit calmer/older
when they are young then no, they are really vigorous
Many dwarf hamster breeds have a reputation for being bad-tempered and horrible biters. However I don't believe in tarring all individuals with duplicate brush, so see how it goes.
They are good pets, but they singular live for 1-2 years. That why i would reccomend getting a Teddy Bear hamster instead. They live 3-4 years, and are more sociable. YES! you can hold them while you're watching TV.
Yea they are very cool pets and you can hold it while you watch tv and stuff.
Yes. They are very cute. Just make certain a dog or cat isn't around, they might eat him. Don't Let him run away from you while your watching T.V.=P
Answers: Hamsters are very "cool" animals. They are soft and cuddly, and you can logically take them out and hold them while you're doing something. Just be very careful next to them. They are fragile little things. Don't drop them and hold them in a way that they don't like. If it's anxious, it will bite. But if it bites you, don't drop it. Just hold him gently or put him on your lap so he can tramp around.
