Are Gambian rats decriminalized surrounded by the us?

Ive been researching these rats for the longest time and I all but gave up on the hope of ever have one as a pet/friend. I recently read a comment on youtube where someone said that they arent banned as pets i the US anymore.

Can anyone answer definitively whether or not they are decriminalized to keep as pets and if they are, where I might locate a breeder feeling like to let me care for one?

Outside of that..even if they aren't lawful...what are my options for keeping one?
Answers:    I know that they are legal in the US, but trial animals really vary from state to state. Contact your local game and parks services to see if you can procure a list of allowed animals.

Know that they need a large pen, and can chew up carpet incredibly fast. I'm sure you know in the region of this already since you've been reading up on them, but one thing people recurrently overlook is how destructive they can be.

I'd be interested in keeping one, but I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to keep up near their teeth :)
I work ata zoo, and I know we can get them. I believe that the band has be lifted to a certain extent. If you don't live in the city restrictions than you are fine. Check with the city parks and wildlife service. My bosses brother used to have a huge colony of them, and they do make well-mannered pets.
Keep in mind, they get more or less the size of a miniature dachshund, and can give a nasty bite if they are not trained. They can be trained whether you have the time to devote to them. I don't know were you can find them, but if you do, formulate sure you GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO CHEW ON. Rodents teeth constantly grow and they will chew on anything they can.

Good luck
