Are rats allowed to enjoy seed?
My mom got this seed mix "specifically for rats". Are rats allowed to have seed, nuts, and corn? What are the side effects of these foods? I don't want them getting sick!
yeah its a great food although it might make them somewhat fat its a very nutritional food its a more Natural food source then the pellet
Yes, Rats are allowed seed. A rat will, and can safely eat anything that a human can eat. and will put away a lot of stuff that many humans WONT eat. It won't hurt them, surrounded by fact Norway Rats (the kind generally see in the US and Europe) prefer seeds. Roof Rats (seen mostly in California and the Gulf coast- They come from Asia) prefer fruits and nuts, but will eat like a human also without unwell effects.
EDIT: whomever gave the "thumbs down" must have graducated from Public School in the U.S. and didn't bother to read anything on his or her own.
sure. rats eat close to everything. there shouldnt be a problem
Thats all fine for them. but it doesn't hold enough nutrition.
heres a great site for what you can feed them.

Rats can hold seeds, sure. I would recommend feeding your rat something excluding the Kaytee-type seed mix, tho - it's full of fillers and preservatives. Get a good-quality lab block (Harlan Teklad or Oxbow), and supplement the diet with a home-made mix of grains and seed (oats, flax seed, millet, sunflower seed etc) and fresh veggies.
Yes rats can eat seeds. My rats liked pumpkin seed and sunflower seeds the best.
Answers: No. Seed mixes are not nutritionally adequate for rats and can cause major form problems over time. In addition, raw peanuts contain a chemical that causes rats' red blood cell to clump. And dried corn contains high levels of a toxin that can harm rats.
Ya Its Nutricious for them there nothing wrong beside it
