Baby Guinea PiG!- What do i do?
My sow had her babies this morning!!
4, all around the same size, but 3 be still borns. this was her first litter, is it normal to have so plentiful stillborns?
also, she was with another unpregnant sow, could she had kill them? there was no sac on the stillborns, but she hadn't dried them, and one looked like something have attacked her head.
anyways,Muffin isnt attacking her baby, and i seperated her from the other sow just incase, but shes newly sort of leaving it and going to eat, and the baby doesnt follow. I saw her suckling once, but immediately when the baby tries to get to her to suckle, she runs away. but next, like 10 minutes ago, she was grooming it! ( AWW SHE SO FLUFFY! and her ears are MASSIVE!)
but the baby is 102g, black similar to her mummy, absynnian x sheba mini yak. just so you know XD.
also, should i put them all back together? because the other sow wasn't attacking the babe-in-arms, she was grooming it, and i freaked out coz Muffin was just within a corner, watching them, and i was scared if muffin rejected the child now, or if the baby go with the other sow, she wont get the milk she needs.
What do i do?
Answers: Its everyday to get stillborns in quite big litters so don't verbs about that.
I don't think the other sow could have kill them as my guinea pig had 3 babies who all survived and they were within with 3 other unpregnant sows.
For now let mum and kid bond and make sure they have a accurate nest to keep the baby warm.
I would put them spinal column together as the other sow could be a surrogate mother if the baby gets rejected. Check on the child in a few hours and see if you can tell whether it has been suckling, if not next make an appointment with your vet to see if you can mitt feed the baby.
I wouldn't worry for very soon as the baby is only young and wants to get used to its new home,
I hope this help
Good Luck
i had a guinea that had babys she had 3 but one be still born just keep an eye on her and give her lots of food. you could devolution her bedding in the morning or afternoon as i did with mine and she was fine she will do adjectives he work. i also had another sow in with her but the babys like her more than there own mother they just used mum for suckling and the other for cuddling up to which i thought was cute close to a live in baby sitter
