Can Rats be Shipped Internationally?
So as of the moment I'm living in Germany and sooner or later want to buy 2 rats.
Is it possible for them to be shipped to the United States?
I just suddenly started to verbs that I'll get the dears, and then adjectives of a sudden we'll have to move to the United States.
Im within Australia and love Himalayans, but we cant have ratties shipped from US to here, as they are worried about disease or some such thing getting surrounded by to Oz but not sure about elsewhere...google it
good luck :)
Please don't ship. It is possible, but would be ghastly and dangerous for the rats. Are you sure you can't find rats in Germany? A responsible breeder/pet store will never, ever ship.
Answers: It is possible to ship rats internationally, though it may be expensive. At this time there are no guidelines against shipping fancy rats as pets into the US, as long as they didn't come from a laboratory. I've taken rats across the border from Canada many times, and though the border those never seemed to know this and they would pull us over anyway and nickname the Department of Agriculture they would always find out there were no rules concerning pet rats so they would let them through. They only cared whether we were going to sell any and make money sour them!
Your best bet is call your airlines and find out what their policies are and what they will charge. Some require a special kennel that you have to buy from the airline (which of course are expensive) and some will consent to you bring your own. If the flight is really long they may not allow live animals, and if the weather is cold they will not let animals on the plane.
I hope that helps!
