HELP ME! HAMSTER TROUBLE?
My russian dwarf hamster is all bony and really thin. His brother who is the same age is close to double the size. I make sure they always enjoy food and i give them fruit and veg every week but he doesn't seem to be putting on weight. I separated them a while ago because they both fought really feebly but he seemed fine after that. I saw him a couple of days ok with his head sticking external the house with his eyes closed shaking. I thought he was having a fit or something so i prodded him and he woke up. He hasn't be himself recently i don't know whats wrong. The other hammy seems fine. PLEASE HELP
The one that's not outstandingly well is the one that's lowest in ranking of the hammies. Assuming they're all masculine, they'll keep fighting and he'll lose out on food as the others are eating it first.
Get a seperate shut within and put LOTS of bedding and fattening foods ie. sunflower seeds and nuts and put the poor little hammie in there and hold it covered for a day and see how he gets on - he should get better whether he can eat all the food he wants and sleep resourcefully by himself.
sh231193 x Gewd luck, keep them seperated forever as it will just start again, if you procure more hamsters in the future, get a different breed and females - russian dwarfs are particularly agressive
Mine be exactly the same. I bought 2 russian dwarfs last october. I construe its to do with dominance, Flash was always the bigger, other went to the food dish first, hid more food, and generally be more agressive than silver. She was always alot thinner, and literally at times felt close to skin and bones. We split them up in april, and the difference is huge. Shes not as big as flash, and probably ever wont be, but feels like a commonplace weight now.
I dont think its ever a suitable idea to keep them together, and I wouldnt again
try to give him a little bit more food and just maintain a really close eye on him. Make sure they are in separate cages and a short time ago keep feeding it lots.
good luck!
Have you seen him eating?
This happened beside my guniea pigs who were like best friends. Cola got really hefty and chubby and Sooty was really skinny.
It turned out the Cola was the boss and was ingestion all the food.
I know it has nothing to do next to hamsters but mabye just keep an eye out for that.
Answers: For the time being only just spoil him rotten with anything tempting. Sunflower seeds are the best bet as they love them and are severely fattening. Lots of nice fresh fruit and veg also goes down well.
Go to the vet, they can prescribe something called "critical carefulness formula" which comes in a powder form. You mix this with a little heat up water. Trust me, any hamster goes mental for this stuff, even the most stubborn non eater! Plus it's packed next to vitamins and proteins. It is designed to help any little critter through the bad patches.
I had russian dwarf hamsters also I was told by the pet store they would be fine together they nearly kill each other.
I also advise you to take him to the vet, how feeble is he.
did u take them to the vet even so? if u haven't then do it pronto! or u might wanna give smaller number to the chubbier hamster and a bit more to the skinnier one. don't worry, they'll be fine.
You should seperate them because perhaps the other ham is eating his food! Get another cage and hand nurture him daily. If he still refuses, take him to the vet!
If they are Syrians one will be killed,
Roborovski, should be fine but remove one,
Russians should other get on, try getting a bigger cage or another food bowl, as for Chinese, some have to live on their own.
Fatty food can be grapes, unusual but they can get big on grapes, give more seed, don't tender him a weel.
One word: Vet! ASAP,its the right thing to do.
i would recommend you pinch him too the vets 2moz
hope he gets better soon
zoe babe..x
