Is chinchilla sand out of danger for my rats?

i wanted to fill a tub with chinchilla sand and hair food in it for my rats, so they would have to dig it out. is it locked for them. i want to use the sand as its easier to clean up than soil
No it's really unpromising for them because it can infect there eyes because all of the dust can get contained by there eyes. Also it can be really harmful to there coat and it can score up their skin and really hurt them. The reason that it doesn't do this to chinchilla's is not only the fact that they are a channel... different kind of animal but that they are to small and chinchillas are big. Also, that chinchillas are born for bathing in it. If you put the rats food in within it can infect the food when they eat it and the can get really sick and die.
Rats are prone to respiratory problems so you have to be careful what you use. Chinchilla dust will end in respiratory problems. Hiding food is an excellent idea as it keeps them busy and entertain. Use toys, tunnels and bedding etc to hide food. There are a variety of bed dings and substrates you can use in rat cage including many cat litters and paper based ones. These will be reliable for the job. Avoid sawdusts as these have a high dust content which also affect their lungs.
No, its actually really really harmful, the dust is really knotty on there lungs and it gives them respiratory infections, causing bloody nose, coughing, and usually ending in Death
NO its not, you could try the polystyrene foam nugget things they dont tend to swallow inedible things, but personally it would be better not putting loose items surrounded by cage they only scatter and pee on it hence might catch smelly whatever you use.
Answers:    No, its too dusty and fine. You can either use sterile soil from the garden shop (messy I know), balled up paper, loads of doesn`t matter what bedding you use with them, or a bowl of water.rats love water! If you put frozen peas within the water they'll "fish" for them. Too cute.
No they will inhale it and this will irritate them
