My rat died second hours of darkness...when can I do for my other one that's still around?
He's eating thank goodness, but I can tell he's freaked out. He and his brother be extremely close and snuggly. I'm sure he's feeling really lonely, and of course we're giving him lots of additional attention. Has anyone else had to go through this?

all these answers r stupid u need a proper answer!! and heres wer i *** within (clears her throat) wel i have 2 dumbo rats(male) my first question is this..is ur rat that u have presently an old rat if he is then u most proberly wnt bring a new rat as he'l b 2 old 2 introduce a new rat and he'l b dominant towards any rat so no do not find another. wot u shud do is giv him more attention as u shud know rats LOVE attention they crave it!! u mite need 2 get him some more toys 2 play with my concept is mayb a cargo net, hammock,loads of rope that he can walk on, receive him out of the cage for more hours in the day/nite and play play play with him they love it wwen u push them around lol loads of treats not 2 lots he'l get fat and u dnt want another one passing absent!! mayb if ur friends have rats they cud bring them over obviously maintain them in there cages u may find that they mite obtain along n then he will have a new freind but it most proberbly wnt occur rats r very dominant(i just repeated my self i know lol) hope this helps whether u have any ore question or want a chat email me p.s soory for ur loss i wud b devestated if my rat dies :( i love animals road 2 much!! x
I don't own rats, but i went through the same thing next to guinea pigs a dozen times, they just keeled over and died, or they were just ripened - aged, :((
my guinea pig, tufty was on his own for months because his friend died :( but we got a new one a few weeks ago, and he loves her! they are resembling best friends although he annoys her a bit i think lol :)
Get another rat for him, but get a female i devise, because he might feel threatened by a stranger male rat.
or get him a small cuddly toy :)))

Yeah, do what the first poster said and move him to a temporary new cage and present him time to adjust. Then think about getting a new rat to preserve him company, or check with the pet store about if a toy or different animal would also work.
I cannot believe how insensitive some people are! When that happened to me, the other rattie became depressed. Just create sure to clean the cage, so his scent isn't at hand anymore. Try giving it treats. And be sure you give the rattie lots of attention.
Answers: Definitely give him tons of attention. Let him out to play on your bed, pass him treats (rats love slices of banana!)
Keep and eye on him. Because rats are social creatures, they do better in pairs. So if he begins to give the impression of being sort of lethargic or doesn't seem as active, you might want to consider getting him another friend. When I lost one of my babies, I put a stuft toy surrounded by there to keep her company. Granted she ripped it to pieces, but she took that fluff and made a nest out of it. I felt that it give her some sort of comfort.
I'm sorry that you lost one of your ratties. It's never easy to go through something approaching that, but I'm glad that you're doing your best for the one that's left. You sound like an awesome pet owner!
Just make sure he has the up to date scents and surroundings he feels undisruptive in and then leave him to work out his conveyance. He will know too well what has taken place but has his own method of dealing with it. Meanwhile plenty of usual food and water as well as contact TLC and affection in a minute and then. DONT CHANGE HIS LIVING SPACE !
Then a little further down the track introduce a new mate to him. He'll cause it man. Bless.
possibly you could get another rat for him.
Don't verbs just keep him close to you. I had two rats and one of them died. Lulu ( the rat i own now) was very lonely for the first few days and became muted, but then she got used to it and shes ok now.

i would put your little one in a different hold. the one that passed may have been sick & your other one could get it. at lowest clean out all the bedding. for now you can do what you enjoy been doing and you can get him a stuffed rat friend. that is what my dumbo rat have. she loves him.

there you travel, I just wanted to say that, I dont really enjoy any comments on your issue, I mean, they,re rats. They have pests, sickness, rabies, I exactly dont know what are you doing beside rats.
