that's great! i have that same one, but once they get elder you need to get a lager cage, and they're roughly speaking $70
the cage is good. but you will probably have to embezzle out the wheel. MOST rats dont like them.
i would NOT suggest one rat. you cant enjoy the relationship with it like 2 rats would. they can play and clean eachother contained by ways you cant. also just one can become depressed, it makes them sluggish and unhealthy.
to convince your parents show them you are responsible and that it is simple to purloin care of rats, that they are very very friendly (they dont bite) pet rats are greatly clean and dont carry diseases like most society think, they are also extremely smart!
the sex of the rat is up to you. males are layed back and chill, bigger, and generally hold a muskier smell. females are generally more hyper, run around more and are smaller.
when you go to a pet store like petsmart or petco the store itself will be adjectives female or an all male store. whether you go to a local petshop and it isnt then simply look at the rats behind..whether it has testicles then its a male. you should be capable of see the testicles very clearly considering how large they are. which is also a something to take into consideration when picking the sex of the rat.
Answers: That shut within is decent for a pair of rats, though it is a bit expensive. You really can't get lately one rat; it isn't fair to the rat to make him live by himself. Rats do MUCH better in pairs and will live longer and improved lives with a partner of the same gender. Plus they will still bond to you and are super fun to survey as they play! Taking care of one rat is no more work than two.
Male or female is pretty much a personal preference. Males are mediator but messier and a bit smellier, and females are cleaner but more hyper and less cuddly. Females are very easy to inform apart from males, as males have quite large testes that are effortlessly visible at the base of their tail. If you get a two of a kind of females, make sure they haven't been within the cage with males (if they are over 6 weeks old) or they may be pregnant and your parents probably wouldn't be impressed with that!
It's other better to get a pair of rats from a breeder. There are at least one or two surrounded by Kentucky for sure, check out these lists to find some:

get 2 make certain you get them the same gender and play next to them the same amount also metal not plastic
That shut within looks fine but get the biggest one you can afford, the bigger the better, even just for one rat.
I have one rat and she is totally friendly, I spend loads of time with her and she seems happy plenty with that.
