What should I do? :S?
Kay so i have been using a glove to hold my hamster and he bites me so i was wondering whether ill ever be able to use my bare appendage?
HE seiously ATTAKS me
Also can u give me a way to tame him so i dont own to use a glove
Thanks in advance = )!!
Stick your fist in the cage every time earlier you handle it. He/she will bite your fist for a short amount of time.(it doesn't hurt that much if you do it with a tight fist) Then it will know you don't soft spot good and it won't bite you Yeah!
Scoop him up in a cup then consent to him crawl out onto the gloved hand. If he attacks the glove, hold him for a minute then set him down. The next daytime, spray something bitter on the glove and scoop him up, then let him crawl out onto the gloved paw again.
A couple of times doing this and you should be able to scoop him up, dump him onto the gloved hand, consequently let him crawl to an ungloved hand.
I always measure my smaller hamsters up in a coffee cup before I handle them a short time ago so they won't squirm away and fall. Eventually you should be able to measure him up into your hands.
Answers: Of course he's scared of you! Hamsters aversion the smell of rubber. They will bite it all the time. Here are things you should do to tame your hamster.
1. Hold it often in need the gloves. You will get bitten quite a bit, but after awhile, it will get used to your scent and will trust you.
2. Get a piece of salad. Open up the round up and cautiously put your hand in next to the lettuce. The hamster will come to you out of hunger and curoisty. When it trys to take the lettuce away from you, hold one to it. Wait until it stands up and it's hullabaloo is whithin 1/2 a centimeter away from your finger. Doing this will get him used to your scent. After a couple of seconds of holding on to it, tolerate him have it.
If you have any other questions, perceive free to email me. good luck!
I adopted two dwarf hamsters from a shelter and they were nippy little buggers. So I put on gloves, and newly let them bite the crap out of my hand until they got bored, and used to human being handled. Then I tried picking them up with my hands and they be fine.
You're doing the right thing, just give it time. Soon he'll realize that it doesn't business how much he bites, nothing bad is gonna happen to him.
Also, when handling him next to bare hands, make certain you've washed them so they don't smell of food.
totally depends on the hamster.
If it's a syrian, it mighttake some work, but in time you should be able to do so. I have one that was very bad so i feed it and gave it water but didn't touch it for a month, and then she be nice. But a have one now that was nice after 2 weeks of picking him up next to a towel and setting him in a bare hand. Many times they don't similar to your hand going into their cage but are fine once out.
If a dwarf, if it's not nice after 5 weeks, you're out of luck. Dwarfs are any very tame, or psychotic. i'd know, i breed them for temperament and color. Some will never be nice no matter what you try and do, and they'll bite for no sense. you could try picking the hamster out of the cage using a soup ladle and then dumping it into your mitt. Some are cage territorial.
hmm. have you ever tried holding him without the glove? besides, you should speak softly so as not to startle him when you walk into the room or anything like that and then slowly put your appendage in the cage and just try to receive him used to the smell of you and then try handling him. my hamster was like that for a while, but after a while she get used to my scent and i could hold her a lot.
hopefully things work out for you ^_^
Five weeks is a long time to have a hamster still not like you. Try these things until that time you give up.
First- He's clean and cosy, right? Clean cage and bedding and marine?
Second- wash your hands, rinse and dry them good. If you smell similar to another pet, food or like cigarettes they don't like it.
Third- don't make loud noise or move too sudden when you are around him.
Four- :) Get treats and offer them using your fingers not the glove. Hold the treat like a sunflower seed by the severely end and keep the other fingers out of the way.
Fifth- Always approach your hampster from the front so he won't consider you are swooping in on him like prey.
Six-After a couple of days of this and making little kissie noises for him try to touch him on the hindmost or the side of the face.
If your hampster gets scared but doesn't bite merely stroke him but don't try to pick him up until he gets used to you just touching him without the glove.
When you finally do try to pick him up hold him over his cage and just scoop him. If you preserve your finger tips away from his face that is a perfect idea when you are doing this so there won't be the temptation to bite.
I hope this works for you. It did for me and my son. We found one within our parking lot that was being scared by a cat and we couldn't turn near it for a couple of weeks without it freaking out.
If it still seems close to it might not like to be picked up maye you could be friends just like that.
Once within a huge while you get a hampster or rat that just is mean and you can't do a point. I think that happenes from inbreeding.
na na na na na ana na la la la la la la la la ala la la so what i'm still a rock star!
